Spotted a, well, spotted bird with a longish beak hopping and poking around my raised flower bed. Larger than a robin, yet smaller than a crow. My Merlin bird ID app said it was a Northern Flicker. I believe it had the red moustache which would make it a male. It was near dusk, probably around 7pm.
Within the last 3 weeks or so, I've also spotted a bird about the same size, not spotted, and with a prominent red patch on the breast. Both times I spotted it on the ground, on the sidewalk actually in my neighborhood. I have not yet been able to Id it however.
